چکیده

The fast computation of blocking probabilities and the resulting capacity is one of the crucial tasks in the planning process of UMTS networks. The admission control in WCDMA networks bases on the momentary interference which includes both own-cell and other-cell interference. Since both interference terms are stochastic values we speak of soft blocking. The number of users in the system is not sufficient for deciding whether to accept a new call or not. Instead, it is blocked with a certain probability depending on the number of users in the system, the activity of the users, and the other cell interference. In this paper we present a time efficient algorithm to compute blocking probabilities in a WCDMA network operating with several services. Assuming Bernoulli activity and modelling the other cell interference as a lognormal random variable the blocking probabilities are computed using an approximation based on the Kaufman-Roberts recursion.

Backhaul-Aware Decoupled Uplink and Downlink User Association, Subcarrier Allocation, and Power Control in FiWi HetNets

Decoupling the uplink and downlink user association improves the throughput of heterogeneous networks (HetNets) and balances the traffic load of macro- and small- base stations. Recently, fiber-wireless HetNets (FiWi-HetNets) have been considered as viable solutions for access networks. To improve the accuracy of user association and resource allocation algorithms in FiWi-HetNets, the capacity ...

Analytic Modelling of the WCDMA Downlink Capacity in Multi-Service Environments

The Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) operates with Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) over the air interface. In the literature, the CDMA uplink, e.g. as implemented by the IS-95 standard, receives most attention due to its limiting influence on the overall network capacity in voice only environments. But with the growing demand of the mobile user for multimedia cont...

A Semi-Analytic Model of the UMTS Downlink Capacity with WWW Traffic on Dedicated Channels

One of the main advances of 3G networks like UMTS is the ability to support a large variety of different services. These services are subdivided in two domains, circuit-switched services and packet-switched services. The main application expected for packet-switched services is the browsing of the World Wide Web. The web traffic is usually described by quite sophisticated source traffic models ...
